If you know Joe Thornton, then you know he’s pretty much the best guy ever. He would do anything, for anybody, at anytime. He loves the Trailer Park Boys and Henry Rollins almost as much as he loves Dodge products. He’d give you the shirt off of his back and the last Mt. Dew in his fridge, which is saying a lot. So, I though it was pretty safe to say there would be no reason to dislike this fine gentleman at anytime, ever……. I was wrong.
The day Joe brought home his 1947 Plymouth Special De Luxe, I hated his super nice guts! A friend of ours kept telling Joe about his neighbors car, how she wanted to sell it and that he should come take a look at it. After a couple failed attempts, Joe finally gets over to see the car which he was expecting was a bucket of rust. The lady wanted $2500 for it, so he didn’t have high hopes.
Long story short, The ladies husband restored it many years ago, then passed away. The car sat in storage for many years, then was moved to a local museum. The museum closed down and told the lady to come pick up the car. It then sat in storage for many more years. She really just wanted to be rid of it. When joe saw the condition of the car, saw the multiple transmissions, multiple motors, multiple sets of full glass, new parts still in boxes and the many boxes of spare parts that came with the car, he told the lady he would be back with cash.
He returned with $2000 to give the lady for a deposit and told her he would be back the next day with the other $500. The lady told him not to worry about it and sold him everything for $2000.
I couldn’t think of a nicer guy for such an awesome thing to happen to but damn do I hate him for it!
